Nature Northern Cyprus

Not all tourists are familiar with the peculiarities of the geography of Northern Cyprus. If you go on a trip, it is worth learning more about the nature of the island. Northern Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. Its total area is 9251 km2. Of this territory, Northern Cyprus occupies only a third and the second part is Southern Cyprus.

Characteristics of the landscape in Northern Cyprus

So if you do a job in the beginning there were several small islands that gradually rose from the shallow water and became one large island. The mountain ranges were formed as the continents moved. At the same time, the landscape is quite varied – there are forests, sandy coasts, flatlands and rocks.

The coast is wavy due to the effects of the sea waves. Two well-known headlands stand out from the overall picture – Zafer and Korucham. There are also picturesque bays, mysterious caves that attract nature lovers. Some beaches are hidden behind rocks and only accessible from the sea. A visit to such a place will be remembered for a long time and leave many impressions.

Weather Northern Cyprus

Northern Cyprus is lucky with its climate. It has a whole range of advantages that attract tourists:

• approx. 330 sunny days a year;
• there are no strong fluctuations between seasonal temperatures;
• seasons alternate gently;
• low humidity that moderates the heat.< /li>

There is no winter in the usual sense on the island – with snow and severe frost. In January the temperature here remains at + 15 – + 16 degrees. This climate often becomes one of the important reasons to emigrate to Northern Cyprus and buy a North Cyprus property. In summer, Northern Cyprus offers excellent conditions for a beach holiday and in autumn the high season begins.

Flora and fauna

In addition to all sorts of sights, the flora and fauna of the island are no less interesting. More than 2,000 plant species are registered here. Many trees grow – pines, oaks, oranges, eucalyptus, which create a healing atmosphere and other species. Due to the mild climate, flowering occurs almost all year round, so you can always admire delicate orchids, crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths, cyclamen.

Among animals there are rare species listed in the Red Book. These are mouflons and some species of mules. The island’s largest predators are foxes. There are many rabbits and squirrels on the territory, and bats live on the island. Caution is advised when walking in the wilderness as you may encounter snakes. Some of them are poisonous.

There are about 250 species of birds in Northern Cyprus, but most only fly there for a while. Ducks, pink flamingos, herons can be found near the reservoirs. There are predatory falcons and eagles.
