Part of the village lies at the foot of the highest mountain Beshparmak and the other part stretches uphill. This is a very old settlement and was first mentioned in 1248. The ruins of the ancient Sinai Monastery have been preserved here. It used to be one of the most important buildings in the region. Today only parts of the walls and granite columns remain. The entrance to the chapel is decorated with an engraved double-headed Byzantine eagle. According to records, the monastery was destroyed in 1882.
Karsiyaka village is famous for its scenic views. Near the village there are lemon, olive and carob trees.
The crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and secluded bays can only bring you joy. There is a sandy beach where the world’s smallest green turtles, Chelonia mydas, lay their eggs in late May to early June. In August and September you can see their little offspring. Volunteers monitor these processes very carefully and patrol the coast at night.
Most of the village and region remained relatively untouched. You won’t find any major hotels, spas, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues here.
