Karmi (Karaman) Northern Cyprus
Karmi, also known as Karaman, is a charming small mountain village located 6.5 kilometers south of Kyrenia at the foot of the Beshparmak Mountains at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. It is one of the most beautiful villages in Northern Cyprus and offers breathtaking views of the coast. The village is surrounded by almond, orange, pomegranate and fig trees and is characterized by its distinctive Mediterranean design with white walls, blue and green columns as well as antique ornaments and decorative elements.
Karmi has a population of 7,000 people and is located 6.5 km from Kyrenia. Ercan Airport is approximately 36.5 km away and Larnaka Airport is approximately 90 km away.
The village offers many attractions, including St. Illarion Castle, which towers high above the village. The houses are all built on different levels and the streets are named after local flowers and plants. The central church, a former Greek Orthodox medieval church, was built in the 18th century and now houses a small icon museum with ancient relics from abandoned churches in the area.
Karmi is a place that takes you back to your childhood. There are narrow stone-paved streets, a small pond with water lilies and a tranquility you rarely find elsewhere. The village takes its name from the Carmelite monastery, which used to have its own dairy farm here and produced cheese, milk, cottage cheese, sour cream and cream for the royal family and the garrison at St. Hilarion Castle.
