Customs Northern Cyprus
In Northern Cyprus there are customs offices at all international airports, ports and border areas. Officials pay particular attention to compliance with import regulations, particularly at the border crossings to the south. Although the local customs officers generally support the tourist when entering the country, they are still checked.
For foreign citizens there are simple entry requirements in Northern Cyprus. Everyone can import up to one and a half liters of alcohol and no more than 0.5 kilograms of tobacco, which is equivalent to 400 cigarettes. Up to 100 ml of perfumery products may also be imported. Other personal consumables must not be more expensive than 135 euros, otherwise taxes of 30% of the total price must be paid.
A maximum limit of US$10,000 has been set for the import of cash. Anything beyond this must be stated. Imported jewelry cannot cost more than $10,000.
If you buy a property in Northern Cyprus and want to take your car with you, you will have to expect high customs fees. In most cases, these fees correspond to the cost of the car itself. It is therefore advisable to find out the exact customs regulations in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.
